How to find your Renault serial number

The guide below will show you exactly where to find your Renault radio serial number.

Enter your 17-character VIN (quickest method)
VIN Code
Enter your 17-character VIN (quickest method)
The fastest way to get your code without touching the radio. Your VIN is printed on the windscreen base plate (visible from outside the car), the driver’s door jam sticker, or in your V5C logbook.

Renault VINs typically start with VF1, 8A1, 93Y or 9FB. Enter all 17 characters in the serial field above.

Your code is delivered instantly provided the VIN entered is correct.

Visteon Van Radio
Renault Van (Visteon)
On the Renault Trafic and Master the quickest way to get your code is the vehicle VIN (step 1 above). That alone unlocks it, with nothing to remove. If you would rather not use the VIN, you can read the numbers from the radio label instead. There is no screen method, so remove the unit (release keys into the four corner holes, slide it forward).

Visteon unit: enter the serial (a barcode, roughly 11 characters, for example 03RAI4I0182) and the part code (the Renault Part Code, starting 281 and ending in R, for example 281152752R).

Renault unit: enter the single security number, or the barcode starting 2811, 8200 or 7700 (for example 281157844RTC109), on its own.
Remove the radio from the dashboard
Radio Removal
Remove the radio from the dashboard
If you cannot use your VIN, the serial number is on a label on the radio unit itself. You will need to remove it from the dashboard.

Older models (Clio I to III, Megane I to II, Scenic I to II, Laguna, Trafic): Insert radio release keys into the four small pinholes at each corner of the fascia. Push inward and apply gentle outward pressure. The unit slides forward. No wires need to be disconnected.

Newer models (Clio IV+, Captur, Scenic III+, Kadjar, ZOE, touchscreen units): Use a trim prying tool to carefully remove the surrounding trim panel, then unscrew the mounting screws and slide the unit forward.
Serial Number
Find the serial number on the label
Your serial number will be in one of these formats:

Letter + 3 digits (e.g. H758, A123). Philips or Blaupunkt unit. Often printed at the end of a longer barcode, in a box labelled "Security", "Pre Code" or "Code".

2811 prefix (e.g. 281150198RTC703). Enter the full number as your serial. Use the boxed number near the bottom of the label, not the part code at the top.

8200 barcode (e.g. 8200607918TJ110). Enter the full barcode number.

7700 barcode (e.g. 7700433948T0540). Enter the full barcode number.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why does the Trafic need multiple values to unlock?
Renault commercial radios require a serial number, device number and date code together to generate the correct unlock code. All three are displayed on screen and must be entered exactly as shown.
Is the Trafic radio the same as the Vauxhall Vivaro?
Yes. The Renault Trafic, Vauxhall Vivaro and Nissan Primastar share the same platform and the same radio system. The process is identical across all three.
Which Trafic years are covered?
We cover all Trafic generations including the X83 (2001-2014) and X82 (2014 onwards). Both use the same radio system.
Can I use my VIN instead of removing the radio?
Yes. Enter your 17 character VIN beginning VF1 (or VF6 on some vans) and your code is delivered instantly, provided the VIN is entered correctly. The VIN is on the windscreen plate, the door pillar and your V5C, so most Trafic owners never need to touch the radio.
What do Trafic radio serials look like?
Label serials are long barcode numbers starting 2811, 8200 or 7700, for example 281150198RTC703, or a short letter plus three digits printed in the box marked Security, Pre Code or Code. Any of these works, as does the VIN.
Is the code the same after every battery change?
Yes. The code is fixed to the radio unit, so however many times your Trafic's battery is disconnected, the same code unlocks it.
