Remove the unit to find your serial
The Alpine MF2199 does not display the serial on screen u2014 you need to remove the unit to find it.

Insert PC5-132 radio release keys into the two holes at the bottom corners of the fascia. Apply gentle outward pressure until the unit slides forward. You do not need to disconnect any wires.

The serial number is on a sticker on the side or rear of the casing. It starts with AL and is 14 characters long (for example, AL 2910 Y 01 04000).

Why is my MF2199 asking for a code?
The unit lost power and its anti-theft lock activated, usually a battery change on the car. Enter the correct code once and it plays on as before.
What does the MF2199 serial look like?
It is on the label on the unit casing and starts with AL. These serials can contain spaces, and the spaces matter, so enter the serial exactly as printed, spaces included.
Do I need to remove the unit?
Yes. The MF2199 keeps its serial on the casing label, so it needs to come out of the dash with release keys. Two minutes, no wiring work, and the label is on the top or side.
How do I enter the code?
With the unit prompting for the code, use the preset buttons to set each digit in turn, then confirm. Take it slowly, repeated wrong entries add a waiting period.
The car is an older Mercedes. Is a unit this age still decodable?
Yes. The MF2199 decodes cleanly from its AL serial regardless of age, and keeping the original unit in an older Mercedes is usually the right call.
